The challenge
Update the National Lottery app homepage to drive engagement to Instant Win Games, scan ticket and draw based games, giving users faster access to preferred games that they enjoy and offering personalisation for the user to tailor the platform to their preferences.
My roles: Research, Information architecture, user flow architecture, UX/UI design, prototyping, user testing

Prototyping
4 versions of the app homepage were prototyped for user testing, including various additional screens which were tested to understand whether any elements on the app homepage would affect navigating or playiing draw based games.
Considerations

When designing, there were multiple considerations such as the positioning of the scan ticket button. We know most users use the National Lottery app to scan their ticket, so findability of this was extremely important. However it was important to also consider that this could push content down and affect navigation to Draw Based games or Instant Wiin games.
A commitment to the Gambling Commission was made to be AAA Accessible as per the WCAG guidelines. Sense checking this throughout designing the flows was important in order to maintain consistency.

Logged out and logged in edge cases needed to be considered, providing personalisation for the user when they are signed in, and allowing them to select what quick links they would like to see to help them navigate through the app. Following user research, new branding for all Draw Based games was introduced for a new brief, therefore the app homepage needed alignment and updating to the new branding seen on the left.
Visual design
A new, improved app homepage was designed and iterated following testing, using the design system to maintain consistency across web. Further flows and edge cases also needed to be considered, particularly around how the quick links will ease navigation for the user and navigating to scan ticket.
Old vs New
The old app homepage design can be seen on the left, with the new version on the right.
